Reinforced Soil Slope Structures

Reinforced Soil Slope Structures (RSSS) & Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls (MSEW)

Reinforced slope structures are geotechnical systems consisting of reinforcing elements which primarily include Mechanically stabilized earth walls (MSE) and Reinforced soil slopes (RSS). MSE walls and RSS are constructed by placing alternating layers of reinforcement and compacted soil behind a facing element to form a composite material that acts integrally to restrain lateral forces.

The reinforced soil technique is a construction method that is thousands of years old and has used different types of soil reinforcing materials. Several types of construction systems utilize the concept of soil reinforcement.

Common types of modern soil-reinforcing elements are steel strips, welded steel grids, wire mesh, geogrids, and geotextile sheets. The use of a facing system prevents soil raveling between the reinforcing elements and allows very steep slopes and vertical walls to be constructed safely. A wide range of materials is used as facing of MSE Walls which include precast concrete panels, dry cast modular blocks, welded wire mesh, wrap around geosynthetics, and gabions.

Another type of soil-reinforced block wall systems that make use of concrete blocks at the face and incorporate geogrids as reinforcing elements. These systems have proven to be extremely viable from technical, aesthetic, and economic points of view.

The T-Block Retaining wall system offers the T- block, the geogrid, and the best connection system, fully supported by a comprehensive professional design approach.
